Founder's Fund

It has been over 35 years since we first transformed our farm into a refuge for injured birds. We still laugh about the days when we had baby owls in the bathroom and herons walking around our laundry room. It has been an amazing journey and I am incredibly proud how the Sanctuary has grown in service and professionalism! 

The Sanctuary moved from the farm to its new home along the Clear Fork River headwaters in 1995. Through the support of individuals, foundations and the community, it is now a statewide resource for injured and orphaned birds, a destination that draws thousands of visitors to Richland County, and it is one of a kind in its ability to serve those with disabilities!

The Sanctuary strives to operate as an efficient non-profit organization. We are able to generate 85% of operating cost through programming fees, gift shop sales, memberships, and fundraisers. We are also very successful at stretching our dollars and resources through in kind services and volunteers. Even with these efforts it does require additional donations to sustain our programs and level of expertise. 

In 2024, we established the Founders Fund to help secure donations to bridge the gap between generated income and operating costs.
