Why We’re Supporting the People Who Support Our Community

Community Health Workers spend their days walking alongside families who are facing tough moments. They’re in homes, hospitals, shelters, parking lots, and neighborhoods—meeting people where they are and helping them tackle everything from housing challenges to food insecurity.

What we don’t talk about enough is that CHWs often face those same challenges themselves. Many work long days in the field, juggling packed caseloads, tight budgets, and the same rising costs that affect the families they serve. Some skip meals between visits. Others struggle to keep up with basic needs while doing the work that keeps our community healthier and more connected.

That’s why CHAP created the CHW Care Closet.

It’s a simple idea with a big impact: a space stocked with food, drinks, hygiene items, and small essentials that CHWs can request when they need a little support. No questions, no stigma. Just care for the caregivers.

When CHWs feel supported, they’re better able to support the people they serve. Your donation helps ensure that the folks doing the hardest work in our community don’t have to carry the load alone. You’re helping us take care of the helpers.
