Did you know... 

Stronger by Choice (formerly known as Reaching Out) has ran the only independent non government funded winter homeless shelter in Richland Co for years! Sadly this winter we will not be able to due to lack of funding.

So, what will we do?? What us homeless, who are trying to get back on our feet do best! 

Improvise, Adapt and Overcome!

Improvise: 

We have our home on Harker St. But no way to pay the utilities, insurance and etc each month, that’s why we have no winter shelter this year. We want and must continue to help in ways others can’t, we have to find another way…

Adapt:

We can adapt our home into a Sober Living Working Home. Sure there are some out there, but us being who we are, we intend to help when others can’t and in a different way. This will take some rehabilitation to our home and where your donation will help!!

Overcome:

We want to support those who are homeless and those leaving rehab programs that have gained or in the process of gaining employment, who are sober and that have a goal to get a place of their own! No forced counseling classes just to bill insurance for something that’s not helping. Our real world experience is that this forced “help” looks good on paper and to outsiders. It is a way to make money period for most sober houses but does not help the individual. If individuals Choose counseling on their own we 100% support them and have several trusted referrals! People who stay will be responsible for a share of the monthly utilities, responsible for staying sober with random drug testing and must keep a job. They will Not be required a first month rent, deposit, utilities, furniture, cleaning supplies, food, laundry access and supplies, phone and internet, and will be surrounded be like minded motivated friends! Simply making easier and giving someone a fighting chance to save money for their own place (with a reference) while being in a positive environment with a no nonsense approach!

 

How can you help?

We absolutely only operate on your donations, to rehab the home and to help support work clothing, food, cleaning supplies, etc and any gaps in utilities while individuals are moving in/out. We still give items out to our area’s homeless as we have them!
