Shelby YMCA Community Center

At the Shelby YMCA,  Community is our WHY. We work every day to enrich the lives of youth, families, and seniors by cultivating a safe space filled with mind, body, and spiritual enrichment.  YMCA's are a pillar in all the communities we serve and that's no exception in Shelby.  

Without your support, we cannot accomplish our mission. At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income, or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. 

Your donation during Richland Gives goes directly to support the Open Doors Scholarship Program for children and families and our LIVESTRONG Cancer Survivor Program. 

 This year we provided financial assistance to 144 families due to the generosity of our YMCA supporters which is over $40,000! 

July 1, 2020, the staff at the Mansfield YMCA entered into a Management Agreement with the Shelby YMCA Community Center. The Mansfield Y staff are providing guidance, leadership, and structure to the day-to-day operations at the Shelby YMCA. The goal of this relationship is to implement Y Best Practices, as well as manage leadership in areas of program, membership, and fund development. “We are very excited to be a resource for our neighbor Y. We are excited to help the Shelby Y thrive and continue to be a pillar in their community,” says Mansfield Y President & CEO Cristen Gilbert. During this agreement, we have been able to raise over $20,000 for COVID Relief, build an Outdoor Sports Complex, update the Y lobby by adding new furniture and vending machines, expand group exercise class offerings, and hire two new personal trainers.

This partnership is crucial for the future of the Shelby YMCA and we are thrilled to report that the budget losses are down, scholarships being offered for memberships and youth programs are UP due to community donors, and we've made much-needed updates to the facility and program offerings. 

Your Shelby YMCA supports the community in more ways than one:

-Provides drastically reduced membership and program fees for those who need it

-Provides breakfast for Veterans

-Provides a free 12-week program led by YMCA certified trainers for the LIVESTRONG Cancer Survivor Program

-Acts as a warming station for community members in need of shelter in the event of loss of power/heat

-Hosts free community events by fundraising for the materials and efforts such as Trunk or Treat, Craft Show, Turkey Trot, and more. 

-Offers a safe space for children to go after school where there are YMCA employees and certified program leaders
