WHO WE ARE:

The Shelby Community and Senior Center is an integral part of the Shelby Community and surrounding area. Our main focus lies with the senior citizen population in our area. We strive to provide a fun, engaging place for our seniors to come socialize, exercise, and continue being active well into this amazing part of life called "retirement".

THE IMPACT:

As with many organizations, we go to great strides to keep our facility available for these folks, many of whom this is their main outlet and location for meeting up with friends and getting in their daily exercises.  Several of our folks plan their entire schedule around OUR offered activities and often-times is the highlight to their week.

Our fitness instructors are certified through Silver Sneakers and we offer Cardio and Core Strengthening 5 days/week at 10 a.m. each day. Chair Yoga is a favorite with many of our seniors just getting back into a new fitness routine. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing, all while building endurance and strength.

We have joined many health plans as a participating fitness center, those being Silver and Fit, Silver Sneakers, Renew Active and more.  Our annual membership is $70/year and includes the fitness classes, Monday cards for the guys, Tuesday cards for everyone, holiday parties w/Bingo, discounted bus trips, euchre tournaments, craft classes, discounted rate on rental of the facility and more.  We want this to be a place that is CONSTANT, SAFE, WELCOMING, and INCLUSIVE.  Our philosophy has always been to make the Senior Center an "extention of home".  We love to do life together inside, as well as outside the walls of the Center.

UPDATES:

With the generous help of our community partners, we have been able to update our office computer system, wifi and building access points, add several new interior security cameras, an internet security program and a back up system! This was all done through the generosity of people like you!  The DONATED time and expertise of a local I.T. professional was a huge blessing. He took the time to shop for the best options to meet our specific needs, respect our price point, and installed everything with the ability to add-on and update as we move ahead! The system install and the hours of work to implement all of it saved us over $6,500 in labor and allowed the donated funds to go directly toward the cost of the hardware and software! What a blessing!

One of the ways we are sustained is through the rental of our facility to families in and around the community, business organizations and community partners that utilize our space for staffing events,  graduation parties, weddings, receptions, baby showers, funeral dinners, board meetings, community awareness events, lectures and more!  We are seeing more interest in the Senior Center as a local go-to venue for many community events due to accessibility, parking and the room sizes we offer. We are very excited about sharing our space with so many organizations and families, now and in the future!
