As we wrap up 2025, we are in our reflective era. Wowza. What. A. Year. Around this time in the fall, when days get shorter and temperatures dip, we begin reflecting on the year we've had...the highs and lows, the heartbreaks and the happily ever afters. In our 2025 highlight reel, we've seen a record number of cats in our shelter, a drastic dip in dog adoptions, and quite possibly the world's longest "kitten season," again. We swear each year it gets longer.

2025 had some really significant events in our shelter. We saw our longest tenured dog, ever, get adopted and find his amazing happily ever after 549 days with us. Boomer STRONG. We also had one of the saddest discoveries turn into one of the biggest redemption stories. Ezekiel Monroe dominated our news feed and stole all of our hearts this year. Our highs have been super high, and our lows have been dreadfully low.

Nevertheless, we persist.

Our commitment to this community and the animals that reside here is unwavering. Our mission is to advocate and compassionately care for the abandoned, abused, and neglected animals in our community until we can find them loving homes. This year proved, once again, that we still have so much work to do.

"Richland Gives." This campaign that runs from November 17th to December 2nd is so important to not only us, but all the amazing non-profits that reside in our county. This campaign showcases the amazingly supportive community that comes together year after year to make a meaningful impact right here in Richland County. And every year, Richland County Foundation generously offers this platform to deserving non-profits like ours to help raise critically needed funds.  We are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States, the ASPCA, or the Richland County Dog Warden, and we receive no government assistance.  Our donations come from YOU, our supporters.

This year, Giving Tuesday is on December 2nd - but donations can be made early.  In fact, donations can be made RIGHT NOW.  This campaign will provide much needed assistance to some very deserving animals.
