Hoops for Youth Foundation Inc

Native Mansfielders Rondrea McCruter and Jeff McCoy founded “Hoops for Youth” in 2003 to give back to community.  The creation and support of educational and sports programs, which challenge minds, build character, and help youth develop to their fullest potential academically, socially, emotionally and physically is the essence of the Foundation.

Hoops For Youth is a non-profit youth organization established in 2003. We believe basketball is more than just a sport. It is a vehicle to support and empower our youth to become engaged members of our community. It’s a collaborative space for fostering experiences that will enable players to make positive choices in daily life and pave the way for future successes.

HFYF provides an opportunity for Richland County/Mansfield Area Youth, ages 6-15, to participate in an organized basketball program held at Malabar School from May- July. We believe that basketball is an ideal venue to teach attributes such as sportsmanship, leadership, social/emotional development, life-skills and education which are skills that support the youth’s education and ability to make positive choices. Each week, players will receive an assignment corresponding to one of our Hoops for Youth core values. Game participation is dependent upon completion of each assignment.  After each game, we gather as a group (players, parents/guardians and coaches/volunteers) to discuss the assignment and how participants incorporated what they learned into their daily lives. This annual event continues to make a great impact on our local youth

Hoops for Youth helps to improve the culture of sports. The goal of the program is to help youth develop positive habits and good character traits that will serve them throughout their lives – whether they play sports or not. The organization and its members work to help youth develop skills that will serve them both on the playing field and in life.
