Chess Bus

A nonprofit organization

At ChessBus, we believe chess is more than just a game—it’s a powerful tool for critical thinking, problem-solving, and community engagement. We are dedicated to promoting chess through engaging and dynamic experiences that make the game accessible to everyone. Our top-tier chess classes, corporate “chess nights,” and pop-up chess events bring people together in exciting and unexpected ways.

We proudly offer chess programs not only to the corporate world but also to at-risk groups, nursing homes, and correctional facilities—providing a meaningful and enriching activity that sharpens the mind, builds confidence, and fosters social connection. In fact, chess has been shown in peer-reviewed studies to support addiction recovery by improving cognitive control, emotional regulation, and social reintegration—making it a valuable therapeutic aid for individuals on the path to recovery.

With a team of master-level coaches, we ensure that every session is both educational and entertaining. In addition to hosting tournaments, we supply high-quality chess sets, clocks, and equipment to enhance the playing experience.

Why Your Donation Matters

At Chess Bus, we believe chess is more than a game — it’s a bridge between generations, backgrounds, and life experiences.Your donation directly supports enrichment programs across Richland County — bringing chess to schools, senior centers, recovery programs, correctional facilities, and community spaces where connection and growth are needed most.

Every contribution helps us supply boards, clocks, and teaching materials, secure venues for free and low-cost classes, and promote events that unite our community through the shared language of strategy and respect.

Chess Bus gives people of all ages — children discovering focus, seniors staying sharp, and individuals rebuilding their lives — a chance to learn, belong, and succeed.

Your support keeps us rolling, reaching underserved areas, and ensuring that everyone — no matter their circumstance — has access to the mental, social, and emotional benefits of chess.

Together, we’re building a stronger, more thoughtful Richland County — one move at a time.
